Values:
Ruben Ortega and Lauren Bricker founded the Two Herons Foundation out of deep gratitude; a desire to make a meaningful contribution to the world, and from the profound influence of their respective families. Their families imparted strong values, stressed the ethical importance of giving, and emphasized commitment to educational and environmental causes. Ruben and Lauren share a sense of responsibility and recognition of the importance of continuing these philanthropic traditions, both for their own sakes and for the inculcation of similar values and responsibility in their children. Forming Two Herons was a natural consequence of their good fortune in 2007, and the desire to give back to the community that has supported them and provided the opportunities that they have enjoyed.
Two Herons was organized to provide a platform that would allow 2HF to philanthropically give in a strategic manner. By supporting charitable organizations working the areas of education and the environment, they intend to provide resources to organizations to profoundly affect critical leverage points. Through a process of investigation and grant-making, they will identify programs and initiatives that require leadership and seed capital.
Mission:
The Two Herons Foundation mission focuses on two areas of philanthropy: Education and learning as a life-long aspiration, and sustainable environmental practices. We support educational programs that advance the teaching of technology and science to children, women and minorities.
Two Herons Foundation will also focus on environmental programs that will improve sustainable (green) living and promote the reduction of carbon footprints and the responsible use of natural resources.
Vision:
The Two Herons Foundation aspires to promote education in mathematic and scientific areas, particularly those that support environmental sustainability. It is the hope of this organization that our future generations learn through positive action that philanthropy is a vital part of responsible living.
